What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment, observing things how they are, in a non-judgemental way. Its very easy to be constantly caught up in our thoughts, thinking about past events or planning for the future, and when we do this, we forget to notice and appreciate what we have right now. Remembering to be mindful awakens us to the present moment.

There are many ways to become more mindful, but the most powerful is through building a meditation practice – a bit like going to the gym to get physically fit, meditation helps you become ‘mentally fit’. Through regular meditation, the mind becomes calmer, clearer and more settled. Instead of getting caught up in the emotions that arise, it becomes easier to just observe the emotions as they come and go just like the clouds in the sky.
